Your health is your first wealth

If I were to ask you, ‘Who is your best friend?’ what would you say? If you have a partner, you might say that they are your best friend. Or you might have a friend who you would say you are loyal to and who looks out for you above anyone else. Some people might say their parent or their child. Others might say that their dog or other pet is their most loyal companion.

Not many people would answer the question with: ‘my body’.

However this is the truth. Your body is your best friend. It is always there for you. It breathes for you, it supports you and allows you to exist. It was there for you before any of your friends or partners and it will be with you right until the end. It does more more you than even your parents or other caregivers.

Your health is your first wealth

And yet, for the majority of our lives, we treat it with little respect. We don’t listen to the needs of our body. We push through physical pain or tiredness when it wants to rest.

But here is the truth, without our body, everything we have done and everything we have accumulated within the physical world would disappear. Everything we work for would have no meaning.

That is the magnitude and importance of our body.

With that in mind, I would encourage you to take an honest account of how you treat it, and make the required changes to ensure that your body supports you to the best of it’s ability on your endeavours to become wealthier.

We all know the basics of what this means: putting good quality fuel into our bodies and practicing moderation with the things that are not so good for us. I like to have a drink, however I don’t drink to excess. I like good food, but I also moderate my intake and ensure that I don’t get bloated or sluggish.

I’m not about strict diet or lifestyle or promoting this, however I do definitely know from experience that a stronger, leaner body that benefits from moderate exercise is better placed to meet the demands of a busy lifestyle.

This doesn’t mean pushing ourselves to our physical limits and becoming body builders. I’m not suggesting we spend hours in the gym, however spending time out walking in nature can be both inspiring and restorative. I have some of my best and most creative ideas whilst swimming. Time out for exercise has so many benefits and by treating yourself as the priority, you’re also sending the message into the universe that you are important, and that you take your health seriously.

The key is to learn and do what is right for you and your body. I’m not going to give you lists of exercises or make suggestions about what you should or should not eat. Every body is different and has different needs based upon age, current lifestyle, injuries or levels of physical fitness and allergies.

In a previous blog post, I provided some guidance on how to get by on little sleep – because as you become more successful, you are going to experience one of the downsides of this: and that is you’ll have less time in your day. This means that from time to time you’ll compromise on the amount of sleep you get – whether that is because you’re working late on travelling. I would say to you that you need to manage how often this occurs, and follow the above advice most of the time.
