4 ways to create a positive mindset

People are always commenting upon how I have a positive mindset. They wonder whether I was born this way, and then they inevitably ask the question, ‘How can I develop a positive mindset?’ 

The answer is relatively simple, and in this blog post I am going to be sharing with you the 4 key ways that I have built and maintained a positive mindset throughout my life.

First things first, let me say this: my life has not been a bed of roses. I was not born into affluence. I haven’t ‘had it easy’… and therefore what I am about to share with you – in my opinion – carries more weight. Because these techniques have worked for me and they can work for you.

A positive mindset is available to anyone and everyone who wants one.

The question you need to ask yourself is: do you want it enough?

4 ways to create a positive mindset

Number 1 way to develop a positive mindset: Develop an attitude of gratitude.

Can you sing, or even better, dance in the rain? Can you look outside on what most people describe as a ‘horrible’ day and still see the beauty? Are you grateful for everything you have in life? Including your amazing body which keeps you alive without you having to do anything? If you can learn to be grateful for everything that is good, more good will come to you.

Number 2 way to develop a positive mindset: replace negative thoughts with positives.

To do this you’ll need to become aware of your thoughts and the language you use. When you notice yourself slipping into negativity, immediately replace negative thoughts with positive ones. As time progresses, I would recommend that you replace each negative thought with FIVE positive ones.

Number 3 way to develop a positive mindset: Surround yourself with the winners in life.

Notice who your energy increases around, and by comparison who it decreases around. You’ll have a gut sense of this in your body as well as in your mind – pay attention to it. You may become tired, bored or restless around certain people, whereas others can make you feel alive and full of energy.

As you develop along your personal development journey, you can actually be around negative people and not let them drain you, but in the first instance it is important to surround yourself with people who support your path and wish for you to do better.

We become like the people we hang around with and so choose your friends and acquaintances wisely.

Number 4 way to develop a positive mindset: Practice positive affirmations.

Spend some time each and every day affirming good things to yourself about yourself. Choose affirmations that are going to resonate and work for you. Some of my favourites are:

  • I help to create millionaires
  • I am successful
  • I am happy

Choose your own and repeat them often. In fact, you will also benefit from writing them out. Get yourself a nice notebook and a pen and enjoy the experience.
