Are entrepreneurs made or born?

“…You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever – because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.”Steve Jobs

For quite some time, popular belief has been that there is a strong link between characteristics – or personality – and the potential to become an entrepreneur.

This suggested that Entrepreneurs were born that way.

However, it seems to be becoming more apparent that the links are not as strong as was once believed. Instead, people are becoming more open to the idea that we can be taught to become more Entrepreneurial.

This is 100% my experience in my own life, and the lives of people around me. With the right mindset, anything is possible.

Are entrepreneurs made or born?

Case study of Steve Jobs: who imagined a future and then created it.

The perfect example of how entrepreneurs are made and not born!

Steve Jobs was the $8.4-billion-dollar man, and was undoubtedly one of the most powerful visionary leaders in history. In 1976 he co-founded Apple in his parents’ garage, was fired 9 years later, brought back to rescue it in 1997 from near bankruptcy, and by the time of his death in 2011 had turned it into the most valuable company on the planet. An innovator, intellect and artist, not many come close to this case study in success.

Which aspect of Steve Jobs’ personality contributed to his success the most? Most would answer with his supreme self-confidence.

“The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste,” Mr. Jobs said in a typical broadside. “They have absolutely no taste. And I don’t mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don’t think of original ideas, and they don’t bring much culture into their products.”

If that doesn’t give you an idea about just how self-confident this genius was, here’s a few more examples: He was running two companies at the same time- Apple in the morning, Pixar in the afternoon. Because he knew he could. He passed on that confidence – once persuading Steve Wozniak to finish a months-long job in just four days. Making the impossible possible. His colleagues called this his reality distortion field, after an episode of Star Trek centred around Aliens using mental force to create a convincing alternative reality.

This man visualised a future, played with it in his mind, and then created it – all without compromise. Jobs had trouble imagining failure because he believed he could do whatever he put his mind to. That’s exactly what he did.
